Big Throws Lead the Way in North Dakota
State Meet Highlights
- Kyle Odegard, a junior at Lisbon, dominated the Division B javelin with a mark of 201-8. That ranks him US#10. Bradyn Thomas of Bismarck had the second best javelin performance of the day, winning the Division A title with a mark of 186-8, a top 100 throw in the nation. - Junior Akealy Moton of West Fargo won the shot put and javelin with nationally ranked marks. Her shot put (47-1.50) ranks her US#23 and her javelin ranks her US#26. - The girls 4x200 Relay state record fell to the quartet from Fargo Davies with a time of 1:41.73. Bismarck Century also bested the old record, finishing in 1:42.42. - In another record breaking performance, Hillsboro/Central Valley ran 4:02.21 to break the Division B meet record. - The race of the day came in the girl's Division A 3,200 when Grand Forks Central junior Karly Ackley, narrowly edged Bismarck freshman, Mattie Shirley Fairbairn, 10:32.86 to 10:32.94. Ackley also won the 1,600 in 4:53.76. - Hunter Lucas, a junior from Fargo Davies, nearly pulled off the distance triple at the Dvision A level, winning the 1,600 (4:13.15) and 3,200 (9:09.87), but coming up short with a second place finish in the 800 (1:57.39). - Asha Smith of Watford City, a senior, had the top time of the day in the 800, winning the Division B event in 2:15.62.
